Aoki Troupe 1910-1911

The Aokis were based in Asakusa, Tokyo, under the management of the Kushibiki clan. The troupe consisted of the three Aoki brothers, Tatsugoro Aoki, Takitaro Aoki, and Jiro Aoki, as well as two young girls, Kameko and Tomeko, and others.

They set off for Europe in 1909. Were taken over by Usaburo Kubo in 1910 – a tea merchant based in France.

1910 Apr – were on the Atsuta Maru – Yusaburo Kubo, Tatsugoro Aoki, Takitaro Aoki, Jiro Aoki, Kame Aoki, Some (Tomeko?) Aoki, Kin Aoki, Keijiro Aoki, Nisaburo Aoki, Sanpei Aoki.

1910 May – appeared at the Japan British Exhibition. Kushibiki Yumeto, an expert in setting up Japanese Villages at international exhibitions.

1911 British census – Yoshitaro Kishi, aged 46, Head, married, employer with Jiro Aoki, married, 25, Takitaro Aoki, 19, single, Sampei Aoki, single, 13, Kin Aoki 17, female, married, Tome Aoki, female, single, 10, Kame Aoki, female, single, 10, Tatasugoro Aoki, 17, single, male, Nisaburo Aoki, male, single, 16, Take Takeuchi, single, female, 28, Aiko Narusaka, 16, female single. All Acrobats, boarding in 27 Dudley Gardens, West Ealing.

1912 -1913 in Germany. Kameko falls in love with Tetsuji Watanabe, another troupe member.

Some of the troupe lost their lives when their boat was attacked.
