1867 June 10 “The Great Dragon Troupe of Japanese had a crowded house last night, and made a good impression. The juggler of the troupe is an artist in his line; he succeeds in making a number of balls go wherever he directs, by apparently impossible curves, and in the most satisfactory manner. In this troupe is a good top-spinner, good balancers, capital rope-walker, daring gymnasts, bright boy performers, and several female dancers. One performer introduced as “Miss-Japanese lady” walks on a strip of paper drawn tight by rollers, and at a signal the paper breaks and lets the performer fall to the stage. Making a toilet while balanced on a small rope seems to be a favorite pastime with one of the members of the troupe. The acts were announced in English by an attache of the theatre, and he took occasion to get off a joke last night; while announcing somebody the Jap. explainer overlooked him and broke out in the usual style but Mr. W. raised his voice to drown the Jap.’s noise, and said “Me first; I’m an American.” lt is announced that a change of performance will be given every night.” Daily Alta 11th June
